CHILDCARE
The YWCA is a leader in quality care & education for children.
We provide affordable childcare in a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the development of young children. Early childhood care and education are extremely important to development and can help or hinder learning skills throughout life. A high quality education has been proven to provide long-lasting academic and social benefits and increase a child's likelihood of future success in school. Our kids love the variety of activities and the opportunity to make new friends. Parents love the safe, inviting atmosphere, mature and trained teachers, and the excitement of their children.

Infant and Toddler Childcare
The YWCA Childcare program for infants and toddlers is designed to build a trusting relationship between children and their caregivers. To accomplish this, we use a primary caregiver approach. Each child is assigned to one teacher who is primarily responsible for their care, including communication with the parent. This program enables infants and toddlers to learn about themselves, their feelings, communicating and moving. They also acquire thinking skills in a safe and developmentally appropriate environment.
We use the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos (Dodge, Rudick & Berke, Second Edition, 2006) as our guide to ensure we provide children with developmentally appropriate activities and experiences which will help to enhance their growth and development. Children’s individual needs, development level, abilities and interests are always taken into consideration.
School Readiness Preschool Childcare
Preschool is a critically important step in preparing children for kindergarten. The YWCA school readiness program offers full-time care for New Britain children. In this program the key focus areas are social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. Our program helps to prepare children for kindergarten by offering developmentally appropriate ways to learn new skills within a play-based learning environment.
Teachers plan activities while considering the needs of individual children, the needs of the group, and the goals set forth in The Connecticut Preschool Curricular Framework (Connecticut State Department of Education, 1999). The Creative Curriculum for Preschool (Dodge, Colker & Heroman, Fourth Edition, 2002) is our guide to ensure we provide children with activities and experiences based upon sound theory and practice relating to children's growth and development.
School Age Childcare
Once children are school age many parents who work full-time struggle with what to do with their kids before and after school. This program is designed to meet the needs of older boys and girls before and after school and during school vacations, half-days, snow-days, many holidays and summer vacation.
The YWCA offers programs for up to 80 children from kindergarten through 5th grade who are attending New Britain public and parochial schools. Children get homework assistance and participate in fun activities which offer them the opportunity to practice skills learned in school. Activities include field trips, crafts, sports and games in a safe environment with mature and experienced staff.
