STAND AGAINST RACISM

YWCAs around the world have a  history of advocating for racial justice.  Stand Against Racism is a movement of the YWCA that brings us together to raise awareness that racism still exists and that it will no longer be tolerated.  The Stand Against Racism brings together like-minded people from all walks of life that share in our vision of eliminating racism and celebrating the richness of diversity.

Organizations across the country are invited to become participating sites by hosting their own “stand” locally.  This results in hundreds of thousands of people taking a stand across the country.  By inviting community organizations to partner with us, we maximize the outreach of our mission.  Our strength is in our numbers.

The next Stand Against Racism date is April 27, 2012.

Why Stand Against Racism?

Racism and discrimination hurt everyone and have had a profound effect on children and adults, our communities, and our institutions.  Today, we can look back on our history and examine the direction, development, and effects of racism as events have shaped the current attitudes and actions in this country.  Race and the legacy of discrimination continue to affect our lives—whether in our everyday interactions with others at work or school, or in our neighborhoods and communities.
