Looking for a place where you can make new friends?
Talk about things that matter to you?
Learn something new?
You have a place at STRIVE!
YWCA's STRIVE program is a free program that provides youth development activities for girls, ages 11 to 14, attending New Britain public middle schools.
"I really like 'Baby Think It Over' because it makes you think about how tough it would be to have a baby at our age...I want to finish college and have my life in a steady place before having a family."
"STRIVE helps me build friendships with girls from different schools and meet new people."
"You don't have to worry about what boys think. You can just be yourself around other girls."
Activities include:
Discussion/Exploration
Issues important to young teens including assertiveness training, non-violent conflict resolution, goal-setting, healthy body development and pregnancy prevention.
Academic Assistance
Homework help and use of computers to complete school work.
Performing Arts
Drama, dance programs, and fine arts in collaboration with the New Britain Museum of American Art and The Hartford Stage.
Recreational Opportunities
Healthy recreational outlets including roller skating, cooking and sleepovers.
Field Trips
Trips to the movies, theater and more.
Community Service
Projects are selected by participants and conducted twice annually.
STRIVE meets five days a week during the school year from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. Transportation and snacks are provided at no cost to girls and their families.
